The company, created by Mr. and Mrs. RANJON in 1967, became the CENTRAIR joint stock company in January 1970 with a capital of 2,430,000 francs; headquartered at: Aérodrome 36300 Le Blanc.
Marc RANJON, a former Naval Aviation pilot with more than 7,000 flying hours, a qualified professional pilot, instrumental flight and instructor tester aircraft and gliders, test pilot trainee tries and receives himself all the productions at CENTRAIR; he also serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
In 1970, CENTRAIR is 4 people, 400m² of rented premises and an activity centered on the import and distribution of SCHLEICHER gliders. Gradually, CENTRAIR also takes the representation of foreign aircraft manufacturers ESSNA, CAPRONI, GRUMMAN and French SOCATA until 1978.
From 1973 to 1976, the workforce reaches around twenty people and the turnover around 7 million francs, while the premises are growing. But the increase mark is such that gliders returned to France become difficult to sell. Naturally, it is decided to build under license in France, and the adventure begins in 1977, with the racing class glider ASW 20.
Perseverance in the face of difficulties of all kinds is rewarded: the first apparatus leaves workshops in July 1978 and is certified in November of the same year. Today more than 140 ASW 20F (F for France) were built by CENTRAIR, more than half have been exported: a striking result that has never been seen in our country and which demonstrates its
competitiveness and its production quality.
The company is also the inventor with the support of the Toulouse CEAT, the "winglets" these vertical surfaces which, placed at the ends of the wing, have the effect of reducing the rate of fall in turns, to increase the transverse maneuverability, to reduce the induced drag and to reduce the stall speed by 4 to 5 km / h. The French ASW 20s who were equipped during the 1981 season took the following places respectively: 2nd at the PADERBORN World Championships and 1st at the French Championships in Bourges.
Mastering the technology perfectly, it only remained for him to take another decisive step: to study and put on the market a French glider of performance. The "PEGASE" was born: 1st flight in November 1981, certification in June 1982. The PEGASE, thanks to the close collaboration of ONERA and the CENTRAIR Study Board, confirms, upon its release, all the expected qualities of the glider. start of training and performance; one of the most competitive in its category, since in 1982 only 6 pre-series devices were delivered; he was 2nd at the French and European championships and 3rd and 5th at the Swiss, Finland and England National Championships as well as in the fourth region in the USA where he completed a quadrangle of 754 km at more than 180 km / h. serious attack on the hegemony of our neighbors on the other side of the Rhine, who go so far as to write in journals; that it is "a true declaration of war" (economic, we get along).
By the end of 1983, 105 copies had already been delivered; production rates approached 10 units / month. Delivery times were about 6 months.
These innovation effects and the production capacity have led the public authorities and the French Federation of Gliding to choose on a call for tender CENTRAIR to build the new French tandem glider "MARIANNE".
From this study, conducted with ENSICA, author of the preliminary draft, then ONERA, SUPAERO and MARCEL DASSAULT Aircraft, for aerodynamic research, the two-seater gliders of the 1990s are expected.
At the same time, our research focuses on reducing the cost of manufacturing to achieve the goal; a glider of quality at attractive price.
It is true that, in the meantime, the experience thus acquired in the field of composite materials has also enabled it for a few decades to become established on the outsourcing market for large aerospace, which now occupies 100 % of its activities. We will note DASSAULT Breguet (Falcon 2000 Drifting Edges, GUARDIAN and Mirage 2000 Components), MBDA (Exocet Missile Composite Elements and Helicopter Firewall Partitions), CFM (Pressurizing Air Inlet) CFM56)
This technological achievement is at the origin of the expansion of the Company: its 1983 turnover of 16 million francs will increase in 2018 to 11 million euros. At the same time, its staff of 82 at the end of 1983, will reach 100 people by the end of 2018, and finally the expansion of the facilities, which will be almost completed, will enable the covered areas to reach more than 8000m² in 2018.
In the years 1990 and 2010, following the cessation of the commercialization of the planters, CENTRAIR developed its subcontracting activities of assemblies in composite materials for the big contractors of aeronautics.
Tier 1 for Airbus, CENTRAIR works for different aircraft platforms (ATR, A330, A400M, ECUREUIL, A380) and some activities for MBDA.
CENTRAIR changed shareholders in September 2016 with the arrival of DB AERO.
For years, CENTRAIR has kept deliveries and quality performances in line with the objectives set by its customers. This guarantee of performance is an asset to develop the company which has extraordinary know-how and valuable human skills.
In addition, investments in equipment to increase production capacity are important. CENTRAIR is now at the forefront of its organization to continue its industrial history in the ponds of Brenne.
For more than 30 years, CENTRAIR has developed a subcontracting and partnership activity for civil and military aeronautics. The company specializes in the industrialization and manufacture of composite parts and subassemblies in the fields of aerostructures, systems and interior fittings of aircraft.
CENTRAIR is pursuing its development strategy as a « Tier One » for aircraft manufacturers and major equipment manufacturers throughout Europe and the world. CENTRAIR maintains its position as a global subcontractor of production (industrialization & manufacturing) and completes its offer by the contribution of metal processing technologies.
Thus, CENTRAIR strengthens its partnership with its customers, ensuring the design of the sub-assemblies or functions entrusted, by proposing a BESTCOST approach as well as the participation in development costs if need be.
CENTRAIR will participate in
